I Cannot Come Down
“I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?”
Nehemiah 6:3
Reflection
Four times they summoned him to a meeting, and four times he refused to descend into it. The invitation to argue is not neutral; accepting it is how the work stops without anyone deciding to stop it.
PRAY
Father, give me the discipline to leave some invitations unanswered. Keep me from mistaking a long argument for progress, and from descending to a plain where nothing gets built.
Amen.
