A Ghost in the Fourth Watch
“They were troubled, saying, It is a ghost! And they cried out for fear.”

Reflection
The help arrived and they screamed. Fear is not only afraid of bad things; when it has been afraid long enough, it misreads the rescue as one more threat.
PRAY
God, I have been frightened long enough to be suspicious of good news. Steady me enough to look twice at what is approaching before I decide what it is.
Amen.
