A Handful of Meal
“I have only a handful of meal in a jar and a little oil in a jar. I am gathering two sticks, to go in and cook it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.”
1 Kings 17:12
Reflection
She could see the bottom of the jar and she had done the arithmetic. Financial fear is rarely irrational — it is usually a correct calculation carried all the way to a conclusion no one has actually reached yet.
PRAY
God, I have counted what is left and I do not like the number. Keep me from living the ending before it arrives, and give me enough steadiness to get through today's part.
Amen.
